Password Enhancements

On October 16th 2004, D&B installed new password security enhancements to protect your Million Dollar Database on the Internet account. The changes only affect users that log into MDDI with a password, and were installed to help ensure that your password will remain secret and secure.

Are you having trouble sharing your account with five or more associates at the same company? You may want to upgrade your MDDI account to an Enterprise Authentication method at no charge. Find out more ยป

Changes to MDDI

The following changes have been made to roaming (user ID and password) accounts.

Minimum Password Length
All passwords are now required to have a minimum length of 6 characters.
Lockout After Failed Login
MDDI will lock out a user account after 3 failed login attempts. The account will remain locked for 20 minutes after the last failed login. To unlock an account, you must wait through the timeout or call 800-234-3867.
Passwords Are Encrypted
Passwords cannot be viewed by technical support associates at D&B.
Password Expiration
Your MDDI password will expire 90 days from the date it was last changed. When you log into the application on the 91st day, you will be prompted to enter a new password.

Changing Your Password

In order to protect your account, MDDI now allows you to maintain your own password. To change your password, use the Change Password checkbox on the login panel under the user ID and password fields:

Once you log in successfully, you will be prompted for a new password. Your password must meet the minimum criteria in order to be changed. Enter the new password in the fields and click the Submit button. Your password will be changed, and you will be allowed access to the application.

If you share your account with other users in your company, you must notify them of the new password. If other users are not notified of the new password, they will attempt to log in with the old password and potentially lock the account, disabling it for your entire user community.

Enterprise Authentication Methods

If you are having trouble sharing your user account among five or more associates, it is strongly advised you consider upgrading your account to an Enterprise Authentication method at no charge. Because of the security enhancements to MDDI, communicating new passwords among your associates every 90 days may become difficult. To alleviate this problem, D&B offers several enterprise-wide authentication methods, such as:

IP Range
Authenticate your users directly into MDDI via their IP address. This method works for users that are on a corporate network, behind a corporate firewall, and for some users working remotely (through VPN). Users not on the corporate network will not be able to access the application.
Secure URL
Allow users access via their referring URL and a custom link. This method works for users both on and off campus, where you provide users a direct link to the application from a corporate extranet. A web server with authentication for your users is required.
Trusted Host
Provide access via server-side software. This method works for users both on and off campus, where you provide users a direct link to the application from a corporate extranet. A Perl-compatible web server with authentication for your users is required.
